Welcome to Potted Opulence! This site is dedicated to all the potted plants we love, that bring us so much enjoyment. Phalaenopsis orchids will likely take front and center stage, but along the journey, I’m quite sure many other plants will be discussed as well. It is my hope that we can engage in discussion together and chat about all the different ways these wondrous creations have made us smile…and challenged us as well.
It Was Love At First Sight
Some years ago, I met a lady who was going through a bad break-up with her fiance and was using plant therapy to soothe her aching heart. She began propagating different plants, finding that not only was she successful at this but that it became a great love and passion for her. I relate to her very much.
When I purchased/rescued my first orchid from a retail store, it was truly love at first sight. I really had no idea what I was getting myself into or that I’d end up wanting to eat up every piece of information I could find on these amazing tropical plants. From there, I began to acquire all sorts of varieties of plants – many of them tropical, others not. My home at the time was an array of colors and the more surrounded I became with plant life, the more at home and soothed I felt. I began to read, read, and read some more. I suppose you could say that it turned into an obsession, wanting to know what my new “kids” needed to thrive.
So that’s how all of this began. Inside of me all along was this strong affinity for plants and I didn’t even really know it until a chance encounter with a lady whose story I understood and connected with. Perhaps you can relate?
Sharing The Love…
So, that leads me to here… for you to enjoy your orchids and other plants as much as myself and so many others are. I believe plant lovers are a special kind of people. We come from all walks of life, backgrounds, interests, personalities and ethnicities. But aside from all of that – we see these plants as living, breathing beings and enjoy sharing with each other what has worked for us and what hasn’t.
That’s what sharing the love is all about. Maybe you need plant therapy and have found yourself here for discussion or are in need of some help with a distressed plant. Whatever the case may be, you are welcome here and I’m glad you came. You and your green thumb!
Looking Ahead For Potted Opulence
What I envision Potted Opulence to be is a trusted source for all types of information. If you need product reviews or recommendations, I would love for you to find them here. If you need encouragement, I hope you will find it here. If you want to chat about plants, I would love for this to be your place.
Really, I hope for Potted Opulence to feel to you like a soft, warm blanket wrapped around you on a crisp, chilly day. A place where you can come, relax, feel comfortable and just enjoy yourself, daydreaming about the next plans for YOUR potted opulence.
And in case you’re wondering, I chose “opulence” because plants just add that extra something to our spaces, our lives and our hearts. They brighten even the darkest corners and add such luxury to the ordinary. Even a work office that you despise going to can be made just a bit more bearable by adding your favorite plant. Orchids in particular remind me of opulence. But what is your choice of opulence? That’s what it’s all about!
